State Social Welfare Board, Odisha organized a state Level worshop on “empowerment of women in difficult Circumstances” in the office premises of the Board on 16th July, 2015 on the eve of International women’s Day, 2015 Celebration. Dr. Minati Behera Commissioner,State Commission for the Person’s with Disabilities inaugurated the workshop cum training by lighting lamp and said on mainstreaming of short stay Home inmates as well as the Persons with Disabilities.She also discussed on the contributing of women in building family and her suffering in the family. Presiding over the occasion Smt. Nibedita Nayak, Chairperson of the State Board emphasized on skill development & Social Mainstreaming of women in Difficult Circumstances.She cited the example of Japan in post world war & focused on rebuilding to come out from difficult situation by using hands,head & heart.Smt. Gurujinder Kaur Dingra, Social activist shared her experience for empowerment of women. Sh. Subash Chandra Panda & SNEH,Bhubaneswar presented objectives of the workshop & focused on peace building & conflict management.Smt. Madhumita Das, Clinical Psychologist imparted training on Trauma Counselling, Sri S.C. Panda on Conflict Management & Sri Niladri Sahoo on peace Building & Stress management. Counsellors of short Stay Home & Family Counselling Centre all over the State apart from NGO representatives has participatedin the said workshop.
The State Social welfare board, Odisha organized an one Day Orientation Training Programme (OTP) for the functionaries of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh Districts and officials of Jharsuguda district on Gender Sensitisation at DRDA conference Hall, Jharsuguda on 12.02.2015. The OTP was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Sj. Kishore Kumar Mohanty, Chairperson, Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) by lighting lamp,Smt. Nibedita Nayak, chairperson state social welfare Board Odisha joined as chief Speaker & Smt. Gurujinder Kaur social activist as Guest of Honour and prof. P. Yasodhara, Director,Central for women studies , NISWASS,Bhubaneswar, Dr. Mitali Mohanty , consultant and Smt. Subhashree Das, Director Institute of Social Development ,Bhubaneswar as Resource persons. Sj. Parameswaram B., (IAS) cllector and dist. Magistrate Jharsuguda Presided over the programme.
At the outset Smt. Matilda Dungdung DSWO, Jharsuguda welcomed all participants & Guests. Presiding over the programme Sh. Parameswaram apprised on the concepts of the programme and said that the living standard of people has been improved but the sex ratio has declined. The situation is alarming and the mindset of having male child needs to be changed. Smt. Nayak the chief speaker emphasized on creating girl friendly environment in the society. And expressed her concern on women trafficking in western parts of the State.She also suggested for joint venture of SSWB, WODC, District administration and Corporate sector to implement skill development programme for women in Jharsuguda district. Smt. Dingra discussing on the present tendency of children said that children are become more binding to the advice /instruction of teachers than parents and gender sensitization by teachers in schools & colleges is the need of the time. Chief Guest Sj. Mohanty said that the gender discrimination problem is as old as Ramayan and Mahabharat, Changes are being taken place but not yet wide spreaded as per support of WODC for gender sensitization.
